1st Degree, 2nd Degree and Reiki Master/Teacher
Once you’ve completed the course, you can get certified by the IPHM, allowing you to become an accredited and recognised Reiki Therapist.
why learn reiki?
We are often asked why we also teach Reiki at The Somerset School of Hypnotherapy.
We decided to include this as many of our Hypnotherapy students either already practiced Reiki themselves, or showed an interest in learning more about the incredible ‘healing energy’.
The form of Reiki we teach is Usui Reiki, this is considered by most to be the ‘traditional’ and ‘original’ form. Reiki is different to other forms of ‘spiritual healing’ as practitioners need to be ‘initiated or attuned’ by a Reiki Master who has a direct line of ‘decent’ from Dr Mikao Usui.
This ‘decent’ is not ‘ancestor based’ and simply means that the Reiki Master has themselves, received teachings and ‘attunements’ which can be traced directly back to Dr Usui himself, decent is more commonly termed as ‘lineage’. Both hypnotherapy tutors here at the school have attained this ‘lineage’. Reiki has no attachment to any religious beliefs and requires no ‘special gift’ in order to learn.
Reiki is taught initially in two stages which are commonly known as ‘degrees’:
reiki first degree
This is the first step to begin your Reiki journey. This two-day course will introduce you to the incredible Life Force Energy. You will learn how to use this natural healing energy, and immediately after receiving your ‘First-Degree Attunement’, you will be able to begin to use Reiki energy to enhance your life and the lives of others close to you.
Although many Reiki Practitioners dedicate themselves solely to this work, you will also gain knowledge of how Reiki can compliment any other forms of therapy you may practice.
Reiki is practiced both ‘Hands-On’ or ‘No-Touch’ methods. We teach in a very ‘Hands-On’ way but if you prefer to stay ‘Hands-Off’, we will totally respect your decision and adapt your experience to suit your wish.

reiki second degree
To embark upon Reiki Level 2 – The Second Degree, you need first to have received your Reiki First Degree Attunement at least a period of 21 days prior. This doesn’t mean you must have done this with us, neither does it matter how long ago, so long as you received your attunement from a Reiki Master with a direct ‘lineage’ to Dr Mikao Usui you can progress to the Second Degree.
Why take level 2?
It is commonly understood that Reiki level 1 is sufficient training to practice with family and friends however, one should receive attunement at the Second Degree level in order to offer ones service to the general public. The Second Degree brings a greater understanding of this incredible Life Force Energy and prepares you to take the healing to the next level.

reiki master / Teacher
If you decide to ascend to the level of Reiki Master Teacher, we will be pleased to assist your journey. A minimum of twelve months must have passed since your Reiki Level Two Attunement took place, and of course, you may have been attuned elsewhere and this is fine.
When you decide the time is right to undertake the Master/Teacher Attunement, it will elevate your Reiki energy to a higher level.
Traditionally, the master level was also the teacher level, however, there is absolutely no obligation to actually teach if you do not wish to do so. It simply means you will have been given the Master Symbol which also is the symbol used to attune others. If, on the other hand, you do wish to teach and attune others to Reiki energy, we will teach you exactly how to do it.
